Shop Early and Send Often!

Greetings from Milwaukee, or as we like to call it this time of the year, “The Gift Box Capital of the World”. Here at Usinger’s, preparations are under way for our 140th Holiday Season, albeit a little different from any other we have seen.

The key for all of us in 2020 is to plan ahead and order early. During our ongoing pandemic online shopping has become the “go to” for many people and there is every reason to think this trend will continue as we head into the holidays. So much so that many e-commerce experts are predicting delivery bottlenecks this coming season.

Please help us by placing your order as early as possible this year. We’ll always do our best to fill last minute requests and orders, but the best thing you can do is order early.

Customers like you are the reason we have been making and shipping America’s Finest Sausage since 1880, and we are committed to doing everything we can to deserve your continued loyalty. To put it simply, thank you.

Not able to get together with friends and relatives this year?

Sure, you could phone, Facetime or Zoom, but why not turn things up a notch and send them a treat from Milwaukee!   Just remember to order it early.

Stay Safe,

Fritz

Fall Grilling

Fall is one of my favorite times of year… It’s Oktoberfest Season! Grilling Brats in the crisp air, matched with a great seasonal beer. What’s not to love?  Here’s something else to like about autumn, the Usinger Fall Shipping Special. For a limited time, now until October 17, 2020, you can order anywhere from 6 to 20 pounds of your favorite Usinger Sausage and ship it for just $9.99 to most states. Check out our website at usinger.com to get all the details. It really is a great time to try something new, or stock up on classics like Usinger Applewood Bacon. It may be a long winter, better fill the freezer now. Check the website for more details and shipping maps so you can check to see if your state is eligible for the deal.

Prost!

Fred Usinger Day February 23rd in Milwaukee!

The most delicious holiday in February is coming … and no, it’s not Valentine’s Day, I’m talking about Fred Usinger Day. You see, back in 2005 Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett proclaimed February 23rd as Fred Usinger Day by special order.  This proclamation recognized Usinger’s as a local family owned and operated business for four generations spanning over 125 years.  Each year, the city of Milwaukee salutes Fred Usinger, Inc. for their long standing good corporate citizenship and commitment to the betterment of Metropolitan Milwaukee and the Southeast Wisconsin area.  To commemorate this event, our friends at the Old German Beer Hall will be offering a free Usinger brat to patrons beginning at 10am on Sunday February 23rd, until 8pm.  I will also be on hand at OGBH to tap a keg at about 4pm. There will be free beer until the keg runs out.  Take a break from the cold and enjoy a hot juicy Usinger brat, maybe a pretzel or your favorite libation as we celebrate Milwaukee’s sausage heritage. We’re now entering year 140 and five generations on Old World Third Street. Still living the dream and making America’s Finest Sausage.

It’s Almost Time for the Fair!

Fritz’s Blog – July 9, 2019

The Wisconsin State Fair will be starting in a couple of weeks at State Fair Park in Milwaukee. It’s always one of the highlights of summer for Wisconsinites including myself. There’s something for everyone to see and do, from farm animals to new products, and carnival rides to great food! Speaking of food, you’ll find many of the best eats in the air conditioned Wisconsin Products Pavilion. We’ve been a part of the Wisconsin Products Pavilion for many years and I can honestly say I don’t think you’ll find a better place to eat at the Fair than here. Whether you like brats or baked potatoes they’ve got it all…and why not have both! The menu at Usinger’s booth this year includes bratwurst w/kraut, smoked brat w/kraut, Italian sausage w/pepper & onions, Beef Frank, and our classic Reuben sandwich. Of course all of our sausages are served on tasty Miller Bakery Pretzel buns.

Plan your trip now and we’ll see you at the Fair!

The Second Half of Summer!

As we enter the second half of this summer. It’s time to review your grilling successes. Hopefully you have attained “black belt status” for grilling brats and wieners using my two beer philosophy. Now it’s time to expand the menu. Have you tried Usinger Smoked Pork Chops on the grill? They are already smoked and fully cooked, just sear the outside a little (so you get the nice grill marks) and they are ready to go. Or try some of my other spicy international favorite links: Usinger Andouille, Smoked Chorizo or Portuguese style Linguica. All are smoked and cooked, so they require minimal grill time to heat them through, quick & easy. If you like some cheddar in your wurst, try our Smoked Brat with Cheddar & Jalapeno (it’s really good!).

Happy Tailgating

As summer fades into fall and cool crisp mornings turn into beautiful afternoons it can only mean one thing – football season and plenty of great weather for grilling Usinger Brats.

Nothing beats standing by the grill on a crisp afternoon, enjoying the aroma and sizzle of Usinger Brats. Remember my advice and cook the brats low and slow to avoid split casings so the flavorful juices stay in the brats.

For our loyal Usinger fans we’re kicking off our “Tailgate Party Contest”. Just send us a picture of your tailgate party with Usinger Sausage and you could win a Tailgate Party Pack featuring Usinger Brats, Usinger Festival Sauerkraut and Pretzilla soft pretzel buns. Visit our website at usinger.com and look for the Contest tab for more information. Also, look for our Fall Deli Discount offer coming in the mail soon.  If you don’t receive one, sign up for the newsletter on the Usinger website and we’ll get you one.  Happy Tailgating and Go Pack !

CHILL DON’T SCARE THE GRILL

People think those of us who grill outside in the winter to be crazy.  Well, I can remember a few evenings in early May when it’s been almost as cold!  You don’t have to mothball the grill just because it’s cold outside.  The food tastes just as good, maybe even better, and hey, standing in front of a hot grill takes the chill off a cold day, or night!

Here are some pointers to stay warm and get great results for winter grilling. First, dress appropriately, in layers and don’t forget the hat. Most of your heat loss comes from your head, so unless you’re planning on keeping it close to the grill (not recommended) keep it covered.  Next, grilling in winter takes a bit more time. Your grill will take longer to get warmed up and that can add about 25% more time to the cooking process.  So, make sure you have enough propane or charcoal on hand before you start, because running out midway through can be a pain.  Finally, enjoy the peace and quiet of winter serenity.  Odds are there’s not a lot going on outside, maybe a squirrel fight or an occasional deer sighting.  It’s just like ice fishing, they’re even better when you get them in cold weather.  There is nothing like a brat right off the grill and it just seems tastier in January!

If you’re not a fan of the cold, well, there are some great soup recipes in the Usinger cookbook and on our website.

Quit chillin’ start grillin’.

Grilling’s 2nd Season!

Warm sunshine and crisp air, autumn is truly on it’s way. No need to think about hanging up the grill tongs quite yet. There are two months of great grilling weather ahead.

For cool weather grilling try something a little spicy, like our Smoked Chorizo or Smoked Andouille links. For something completely different, try grilling our bone – in, Smoked Pork Chops. They are cured, smoked for hours in our brick smokehouses and are fully cooked.  When you put’em on the grill they’re nothing short of amazing!

Now is a great time to try something new, during our Fall 15 promotion.  Until the end of September, you can stock up on Usinger deli products and save 15%.  All you have to do is type in “Fall 15” in the promo code when you order online. Don’t forget the Summer Sausage and Braunschweiger, so you are ready for those big game gatherings.  The Fall 15 promotion is available only on sausage products and only in the online Deli Store, or at our retail store downtown at 1030 N. Old World 3rd Street.
